25.12.2022- Christmas Edition of the Caribbean Dispatch
Merry Christmas!
I read somewhere that it’s impossible to write if you don't read. And I find it very true. I had no time for reading (to be read I did not prioritize reading) for the last couple of months. I struggle not feeling awful, but it’s the season to be kinder, so I decided to be kind with myself.
Art and Books
I do have lots of books gathered to be read, within the next year (cough cough make it 2). The majority are about art and about writing about art.
I always had this thing (I got from my father) with knowing about art. It makes the actual viewing of art better - at least for me.
For example
One of the four unfinished sculptures of Prisoners (or Slaves, as it also known). When I first saw it (and the others three) at Galleria dell’ Accademia in Florence…I was just amazed.
And it just hit differently as I recognized and felt Michelangelo’s thoughts about the sculpting process “I saw the angel on marble, and I carved until I set him free”
…now scroll up and take a look again…feel the difference.
I recently visit MOMA and I got some art books for David, and he loves it.
I encourage him a lot to describe what he sees.
For example, below he sees mommy sleeping with a monkey and a moon :)
Or here he sees a woman in the sky with the stars (a women because she does not have a penis, he explains when asked why a woman and not a man:) I can’t argue with this.
Anyways, all good on this side of the world…
Merry Christmas and Happy holidays,
O
